“Take Me To the Sun (So Warm, So Ready)” by Jessica Bailiff // At the Down-Turned Jagged Rim of the Sky (2012)
The new Jessica Bailiff album is pretty much spectacular from start to finish. It’s one of those rare albums that catches you completely off guard by being incredibly consistent, and thoroughly rewarding. While much of the album exists in a sort of a middle ground between ethereal post rock and ambient, there are a couple of tracks that slide effortlessly into a shoegaze-y dream pop. These tracks are especially exciting. “Take Me to the Sun” is just such a song. Layers of guitars reverberating over Bailiff’s lovely voice while the choral backing vocals and synths lift the track to a blissed out peak. It’s a stunner. One of the very best songs to come down the pipeline in recent months and that’s saying a lot considering the talent that’s been releasing new music. Highest recommendation for fans of My Bloody Valentine, Lilys, and Deerhunter.
