TW: Rape, Sexual Abuse
Don’t Deport Blanca Medina!
Blanca Medina came to the United States with her four-year-old daughter, Alejandra, to seek refuge after being raped five times in El Salvador, where she is from.
She missed a hearing to apply for protection because of medical problems from being raped, including psychological trauma, and didn’t file a motion to open her case within 180 days after her missed court date.
Now, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement wants to deport her, despite the fact that none of her rapists have been arrested, including her stalker, and she would be in extreme danger. Medina tried to explain this to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but they are still continuing with deportation proceedings. While her case is in the processing stage, she is in a detainment center away from her daughter.
Please tell the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement not to deport Blanca Medina, and to change their policy so that this does not happen again!
See this picture? This comes from a town in Canada where a 24 pack of water bottles is 104 dollars and formula milk for a baby is priced at 55 dollars a pack. What’s more, a pack of diapers is 95 dollars and one head of lettuce is 26 dollars. Inuit people are starving in a country known for it’s generosity.
If you don’t believe this is true, you can find more images like this here. This is the only grocery store these people have in their small towns, and many people are going hungry & elderly are dying faster.
You’ll send aid to foreign children that are starving, so why won’t you pay a little extra to feed the people in your own country who work hard & still can’t afford the prices for healthy food for their families?
Please have a heart and reblog this photo to raise awareness that even in our own countries people are starving, join the movement and show the government that we won’t sit by and watch people starve.
If you think this will make your blog ugly you’re wrong. Children in a first world country are getting sick & starving, and nobody is even aware it’s happening. You can let people know by reblogging and showing you care. My own family is going through this.

A local Romanian mayor has just forcibly evicted over 38 Roma families from their accommodation — and is now forcing them to live in a toxic, decommissioned chemicals factory. Small children are already in hospital after chemical exposure, and the situation is so horrifying a respected Romanian newspaper is comparing this to Auschwitz. But the Romanian Prime Minister can stop this shocking treatment.
This factory ‘accommodation’ is still filled toxic remnants of the factory, shut down in 2005 and known locally as “The Death Plant”. Outrageously, Mayor Cătălin Cherecheș has joked that Roma are falling ill from the “cleanliness” of the factory. He’s hoping to win votes by appearing ‘tough’ on Roma ahead of an election on Sunday, but we can turn these horrible acts against him. The local Mayor is a member of the Prime Minister’s Social-Liberal Union, and if we pressure the PM Victor Ponta to speak out against this abuse, we can force the Mayor to close this death factory and re-house the victims.
As a Romanian, I’m deeply shocked by the way these people have been treated. But the new Romanian PM is looking to establish his credibility in Romania and Europe — so let’s make sure he does the right thing. Sign my petition to call on the PM to demand the Mayor apologize and re-accommodate these innocent Roma!

Every month, approximately 2,000 African refugees cross the border into Israel, fleeing persecution in their home countries. To date, 50,000 Africa refugees reside in Israel seeking asylum. En route, these refugees are subjugated to extreme torture and abuse by Bedouin smugglers, their “guides” across the Sinai Desert and over the Israeli-Egyptian border. Everyday Eritrean and Sudanese refugees in the Sinai are electrocuted, branded with hot irons, chained together, starved, and women endure systematic and brutal rape. Recently, human rights NGOs have documented disturbing new developments: the organ theft of those who cannot afford to pay their way out of the camps and the kidnapping of refugees from their homes by Bedouins in Eritrea and Sudan.
This petition calls for the United States government to put pressure on the Egyptian government to stop the trafficking of refugees at the Suez Canal before they turn into torture victims. The Egyptian government must confront the corruption within its army that enables the Bedouin to smuggle the refugees through seven military checkpoints. As citizens of the United States, we advocate on behalf of these African refugees and ask that the United States government use its influence to stop extortion, trafficking, and torture in the Sinai.

Allow Autistic Student to Graduate!
Just a week before graduation, Sinclaire Coffer, an autistic student, found out he is not going to be allowed to graduate.
Coffer has good grades — mostly A’s and B’s — but he hasn’t been able to pass the math exam that is required for all Georgia students in order to graduate high school. The state allows students with disabilities to apply for a waiver that allows a student to graduate regardless of exams, but Coffer was denied. The family has not been told why, but most special needs students have been denied waivers.
Coffer wants to learn how to make movies and go to film school, but he cannot follow his dreams if he isn’t even allowed to receive his hard-earned diploma.
Please tell the Georgia State Board of Education to allow Coffer to graduate and to change the policy so that special needs students have better access to these waivers. This is an injustice and it needs to be changed!
There’s already a Change.org petition against the passing of Amendment One, which banned same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships in North Carolina. These things actually tend to be pretty damn effective.
Let’s see what the power of Tumblr can do! I know there’s at least a million Tumblr users who are against this sort of harmful discrimination and bigotry.
Sign the petition and reblog to spread the word, please!
Sign the Change.org petition to let UAFS know that the world won’t stand by while they silence a transgender student. (I’ve written about Jennifer Braly before, and I’m thrilled to see her getting appropriate media coverage.) -Jess

Don’t Expel Bullied Gay Teen!
Darnell “Dynasty” Young has been bullied for months — it has sometimes gotten so bad that he has thought about suicide.
His mother contacted the school but instead of taking appropriate action, asked Darnell to “tone down” his accessories. That is victim blaming.
Not knowing what to do, his mother sent him to school with a stun gun because he didn’t feel safe. On April 16, 6 students surrounded him threatening violence. He pulled out the stun gun and raised it in the air, setting off an electric charge. He did not use it on anyone — he simply scared them away, protecting himself.
Young was soon arrested and taken away in handcuffs. He is now facing expulsion from the school.
Please tell Arsenal Technical High School to not expel Young — who hurt no one and was just trying to protect himself — and to change their school’s bullying policy to offer more protection for LGBT youth. No one should feel unsafe at school!

Self-defense is not a crime.
Surviving is not a crime.
And yet, in the city of Minneapolis, a woman has been convicted of exactly that. CeCe McDonald, a young trans woman, was convicted of manslaughter. Manslaughter, in this case, meaning the act of defending herself from her attackers. Several men attacked her, with the obvious intent to kill, on the basis of her race and gender identity. In the act of protecting her own life, she killed one; and was charged with murder.
As if this was not enough, the judge in her case was quite obviously biased against her from the start. He selectively excluded evidence that could cast her attacker in a negative light, while permitting evidence that cast her in a negative light. As such, she accepted a plea bargain, down from forty years. And she was sentenced to over three years in a men’s prison.
A woman was sentenced to a men’s prison, for the crime of defending herself from someone who intended to kill her. In such a place, she will almost certainly face more of the same, and worse.
Please, reverse this decision. Pardon her. Let justice prevail.

Another Murder Going Unpunished!
I got this email from MoveOn (it’s another change/petition sort of website) and I had to share it —
On December 23, 2011, my goddaughter, Jasmine Thar, a 16-year-old African American, was shot and killed while in my mother’s front yard in Chadbourn, North Carolina.
When the shot rang out, Jasmine was preparing for a routine shopping trip and doing what most teens do—texting. Two others, my niece and myself, were also injured in the shooting.
The 23-year-old Caucasian male who fired the fatal shot from the house across the street was taken in for questioning, but he has not been charged with a crime of any kind.
Because he claims it was an accident, the police let him go—despite the fact that he admits he fired the shot and police found a Confederate flag and Nazi literature in his home.
The message being sent is that you can shoot and kill someone like Jasmine and get away with it by simply claiming it was an accident. That can’t be the world we live in.
Marissa Alexander shot a warning shot to ward off her abusive husband and she’s facing 20 years in prison for protecting herself while not hurting anyone, but Jasmine’s killer doesn’t face any charges at all? WTF
There’s a petition you can sign here (US citizens only). Marissa’s case will be on Anderson Cooper 360, 8pm & 10pm tomorrow (Monday, April 23).
